The Roller Coaster

Well this winter has already been pretty tough but I think we are starting to get a little better.
Aiden was sick last week and was very aggressive, biting, hitting, kicking and pinching. at first we were giving him time outs and yelling to stop it. that would then escalate it and lead to hour long meltdowns. His ABA therapist was at home working with him and he started acting up again, and she basically ignored it, and it wasn't as bad an episode. So we are trying our best to ignore the bad behavior and reward the good. I made a reward chart, and separated the day into different parts morning before school, after school, after supper to bed time, and if he doesn't be aggressive during those times he will get a prize and sticker on the chart. When he gets 10 stickers he will get a larger prize such as a trip to chuck e cheese or McDonald's. he has 1 sticker so far in 3 days. I think it will help him.
Thursday was one of the worst days of our life, him having 5 meltdowns lasting a hour each, yelling at each other. it has to get better than that, and it has! :)

yelling

I use alot of patience with my son. Well I think it is running out. He doesn't listen then I have to repeat myself a few times then have to yell to get his attention and by that point I am upset with him. It's really annoying and I hate yelling at him but I just lose it. He won't keep his hat on outside. What am I gonna yell at him all winter? THIS SUCKS!

Potty Time

Yesterday Aiden brought me his Spiderman Undies, he wanted to wear them. So potty training has stepped up a notch. He was wearing pull ups. Last night he peed on the potty once. Other times on the couch, bean bag, chair, etc. I am having a hard time the past 3 years with this. I think it's partly that he doesn't really get it yet, partly the Autism, partly that I hate having pee all over my house. UGH! Let's see how this goes, with his giving me the underwear maybe he is ready now.

We had a fun Halloween! I had Aiden use his PECs to say Thank you trick or treating.
I put Aiden in a Halloween photo contest. Please vote for him @ http://wildfireapp.com/website/6/contests/67706/voteable_entries/9646568?ogn=website&order=votes

September 25th at BCC we are walking in the Hearts and Hands Walk for Autism a fundraiser for Community Autism Resources! We are walking in honor of our 4 year old son Aiden who has Autism. Please sponsor us and share this link in your blogs @ http://www.firstgiving.com/wendyfonseca

Aiden has been really acting up lately... hitting himself in the face when things don't go his way... We have been working on using his yes and no PEC cards but he is still learning them and still gets so frustrated when he doesn't want to do something...it is really frustrating because it seems he doesn't enjoy to do anything anymore, he always ends up hitting his face if he does enjoy something he hits his face when its time to leave or all done.... He has been doing this for over a month and I need him to stop this behavior. we tell him hands down and then ignore the behavior untill he calms down but i dont see him stopping this :(

PLAY

My little man is coming around (now and then for minutes). :)
Over the weekend and last night we took away his spoon for play times( he throws and picks up for hours. ) in those times we played ball, hula hoop and he rode his first bike. he had amazing eye contact and was paying attention and in his own way asking for more(with looks and pulling us) he did a 9 piece peg puzzle and colored a bit. I'm hoping we can keep this up and have more play times.

We went to Patriots training camp this weekend-- it was awesome. we saw them practice then Aiden went to the play area with bouncers and he also played a football game. throwing a nerf football to a picture of a football player. people actually cheered for him, and I was so proud he enjoyed himself doing "normal" things.

What's up Doc and a Staycation

Aiden did really well at his appointment with Dr. Beir at the Swartchz Center yesterday. That is his developmental pediatrician. When we first got there he was having a tantrum but then they said we could wach tv in a differnet room and he calmed down so then he was great with the DR! He is 41 pounds and 41 inches! He put 6 pegs in the peg board, and 4 rings on a stick, and a few puzzle pieces in a puzzle. He kept hugging me over and over and was in overall happy/ silly mood and she was happy to see him so affectionate with me and my husband. She said "that is not like most autism pdd." so he did a good job! She wants to go on with the genetics testing (blood work) and when my husband asked what would that do, and it was to rule out other things, and in case if we wanted to not have any more children. That was somewhat rough to hear but I know what she meant.

We had a great vacation "staycation". We saw Thomas at Edaville railroad, went to Plymouth Mass and stayed over night there. We went to the beach, We played minature golf, and saw a ligthhouse! :)

Aiden started the summer program at school and has been on a couple field trips. He went bowling and to another school to see a reptile show, He also goes swimming in the kiddie pools at school. He is doing pretty well adjusting at school with the new teachers and aides.

Here's a couple pictures from our vacation!
